Iron Balustrade

Conrad Hicks

2005

Ironwork

The iron balustrade forms the centrepiece of the grand stairway. This is Conrad Hick’s signature piece in the 21 Nettleton hotel that he spent weeks crafting. Again, his art piece has a natural curve in its design with organic shapes and forms. At the bottom of the staircase, the balustrade is ornate and stately. Yet, as the staircase spirals up to the Penthouse Suite, the design grows more simplistic. In doing so, the artwork goes through its own metamorphosis and tells a story.
