Self Portrait Sketch

Francois Krige

1973

Charcoal

Francois Krige created many self-portraits throughout his life, most of them in oils. This self-portrait breaks the mould by being a charcoal study. This portrait of himself with a hat and beard still shows his careful attention to detail. It demonstrates the classic combination of confident line work and shading, with emphasis placed on his face.
