‘Blossom Still Life’
Francois Krige
1989
Oil on Canvas
Scattered among his many portraits, Francois Krige also painted the famous landscapes of Montagu, the town where he resided. The sight of the fruit trees blossoming would be one that swept across his home valley every September. This painting is more impressionistic than his other work, employing shorter brushstrokes. Krige also took care in rendering the light of both the sky and the ground. With this technique, he captures the fleeting nature of spring and the process of transformation.
