This artwork falls under the Montagu Collection, even though it is incomplete. The man is another ‘Burgher of Montague’, a local resident in the Klein Karoo small town where Francois Krige resided. Although the background remains unfinished, it still contrasts and contextualises the male figure in the foreground in the bright yellow hue. Krige used white to draw out and light the face, catching the man in a surprised expression, full of spontaneity.
