Black and White Photo Series
Patrick de Mervelec
2007-2017
Photography
Parisian-born French photographer, Patrick de Mervelec, has captured the portraits of The Beatles, Deneuve and Churchill. After spending years catching celebrities, the street life of Paris and the fast-paced world of fashion, de Mervelec moved to South Africa in 1988. Since then, he has collaborated with many South African artists on cultural projects, such as singer Johnny Clegg, the poet Mazisi Kunene and David Krut. These black and white photographers capturing moments in Cape Town life are his trademark. De Mervelec’s photographs often depict pedestrian life, with a sense of detail and architectural space. He invigorates his artworks with his passion for quality of light, form and texture.
