Biedermeier Commode
Austria
1815 - 1848
Unknown
This three-door Biedermeier commode is of quintessentially Austrian origin. Most of the woods used in Biedermeier furniture is light, being fashioned from walnut, oak and cherry wood instead of the richer and darker mahogany. However, there are still elements of a darker wood surfacing in the furniture. The pure lines and simple geometry give the wood grain a chance to take the spotlight. This technique later influenced the stylish interior design during the Bauhaus and Art Deco periods.
