This striking portrait is one of the many brilliant photographic works from Isabel Pinto, an international photographer who has worked on many projects, including Vogue. Pinto is Portuguese, but was born in Mozambique and raised on both continents. Pictured here is a Congolese man, Dave Kamamba. When Pinto took his portrait, Dave was a man at the beginning of his modelling career, before he took the African fashion scene by storm. Pinto specialises in expression photography and has a way of capturing deeply emotional portraits. The stark contrast in this photograph makes it arresting, as well as the subjects dramatic features in the sharp lighting. The redness in his scarf and his lips are the only colours to break the otherwise black-and-white photo.
