Marie Vermeulen-Breedt

Unknown

Oil on Canvas

Marie Vermeulen-Breedt is a modern South African artist who’s work escorts us back to the Romantic Era. Her work bears the signature markings that belong to the European Enlightenment period (1800-1850). It was a time when art, music and literature flourished, and landscape painting was veiled in mystery. With her technical virtuosity and pre-occupation with light, Vermeulen-Breedt’s artworks capture an impression of a scene. This oil painting creates a wondrous medley of colours and tastes like artwork or music composition. In it, the artist expresses a moment in the kitchen when the head chef "conduct(s) his orchestra of sous-chefs in the production of something heavenly."
